Women’s Rugby's Undefeated Season Stays Alive in UNE Doubleheader

Waterville, ME - Women's Rugby would extend their undefeated streak to nine matches after defeating the University of New England Nor'easters in two tournament style matches on Saturday, October 11th at Alumni Field. The Terriers would take game one by a score of 19-15, and game two by a score of 31-12.


How it Happened:

Game One: Thomas 19, UNE 15
  • The Terriers would start the match a player down due to an unforeseen injury.
  • But that wouldn't stop the Terriers from finding the board first, with Cassidy Hardy powering her way through for the first try of the contest.
  • The Nor'easters would find a response in the final minute of the first half with a try of their own, sending both teams into halftime tied at 5-5.
  • The Terriers would gain the momentum back the start of the second half with a quick try from Anaya Ammon and conversion from Brooke Taylor to make it a 12-5 match.
  • UNE would respond again with another try minutes later.
  • But another successful try from Hardy and Conversion from Taylor would extend the Terriers lead to nine points late in the match.
  • Despite a try in the final minute of the match from the Nor'easters, the Terriers would ultimately hold on to secure a 19-15 win in game one.

Game Two: Thomas 31, UNE 12
  • The Terriers would strike first early in game two with a try from Ammon and successful conversion from Taylor, giving the Terriers a 7-0 lead within the first minute of play.
  • Taylor would score the final points of the first half with a try, and would send the Terriers into the half with a 12-0 lead over the Nor'easters.
  • UNE would look to generate some momentum in the second half with an early try.
  • But Rakhia Dobbins would respond moments with her first try of the day to make it a 17-5 game.
  • Hardy would extend the Terriers lead midway through the second half with her third try of the day, and Taylor would follow with a successful conversion to give the Terriers a 24-5 lead.
  • Despite a late try and conversion from the Nor'easters, Hardy and Taylor would seal the game in the final minute with a try and conversion of their own, securing a 31-12 win for the Terriers in game two.

What's Next:
  • The Terriers will return to action for the final time of the season on Saturday, October 18th, traveling to Biddeford, Maine to take on the University of New England Nor'easters once again. The Terriers and the Nor'easters will play tournament style matches, with the times of the contests TBD.
