Strong Defending Leads Terriers to Win Over Anna Maria College

Box Score Paxton, MA – Women's Soccer earned their first win of the season versus Anna Maria College on Friday, September 1st, 2-0 thanks to some strong defending and a quick start.

Thomas College: Overall (1-0), NAC (0-0)  
Anna Maria College: Overall (0-1) 

How it Happened:  
  • The Terriers got off to a quick start, scoring within the first 11 minutes. Abbie Lerman sent in a left-footed cross, which eventually found Mary Larochelle for an easy finish to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead. 
  • 11 Minutes later, Emily Wallingford settled the ball off of a throw-in, and sent a 30-yard rocket to the top right corner, catching Amcat goalie Kortney Clark off guard, to make the score 2-0. 
  • However, Anna Maria didn't give up and got three more shots off, two of which needed to be saved by Emilee Ireland, before the end of the first half. 
  • The second half was a defensive battle, with Anna Maria gaining momentum. The Amcats had a flurry of five shots in a three-minute span, forcing a block and two good saves from Ireland.
  • The Terriers went on to control the Amcats for the rest of the game, which ended in a 2-0 win.
  • The Amcats ended the day with a total of 19 shots, compared to the Terriers 11. 
 
The Goalkeepers:  
Terriers' keeper Ireland made an impressive eight saves in some important moments to keep the shutout. 
Amcats' keeper Clark made five saves on seven shots on goal. Both keepers played the full 90 minutes. 
 
What's Next:
The Terriers continue their Massachusetts road trip at Springfield College, on September 2nd, 2023. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
