Terriers Drop 3-1 Loss to Monks

STANDISH, ME – The Thomas College women's soccer team fell to Saint Joseph's College (Maine) in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday by a 3-1 score.

The loss drops the Terriers to 0-3 in their 2016 campaign while the Monks improve to 2-2.  Emily Thornton (Westbrook, ME / Westbrook) recorded a goal and an assist to lead the Monks' offense.

The Monks stuck first in the 13th minute of the first half when Desiree Parent (Westborough, MA / Seton) scored on an assist from Thornton for an early lead.  Later in the half, Thornton chipped in her first goal of the season for a 2-0 lead at half-time.

Saint Joseph's looked to pull away early in the second half when Sarah Comtois (Lowell, MA / Lowell) scored to the give Monks a 3-0 lead at the 52nd minute.  The Terriers answered back just six minutes later as Kayla Bess (Madison, ME / Madison) netted her first collegiate goal to finish the scoring for the contest at 3-1.

Senior captain Paige Leary (Palermo, ME / Erskine Academy) was given the loss in goal for the Terriers after turning away ten shots while Brooke Troup (East Bridgewater, MA / East Bridgewater) made two saves in the win.

The Terriers will hit the road for the weekend as they make the long trip to the University of Maine at Fort Kent on Saturday, September 10, for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
