Box Score WATERVILLE, ME - The Thomas College women's soccer team defeated the University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls 2-1 in a non-conference game Friday night at Smith Field. Cassie Contigiani scored both Terrier goals in the win.
After 15 minutes of even play through the opening half, the Terriers were first to get on the board. Bronte Howorth passed the ball through the defending line to Contigiani, who shot within the 18 and buried the goal to the right side to put the Red and Black up 1-0.
The Owls got on the board in the closing minutes of the first half. Mikaelah Tracy served the ball towards net where Bethany Heald separated from the Thomas defender and netted the breakaway goal to even the score at 1-1 into halftime.
Thomas regained the lead 20 minutes into the second half. Kajsa Kaufeldt threaded the ball to Contigiani, who settled it and shot over the head of the Owls goalie for her second goal of the game, giving the Terriers the 2-1 lead for good.
Thomas goalkeeper Paige Leary earned the win for the Terriers, recording four saves. Owl's keeper Allie Lopez recorded 16 saves in the loss.
Thomas will be back in action Saturday afternoon at home in a non-conference game against the University of Southern Maine at 1:00 pm on Smith Field.
