Box Score CASTINE, ME – The Thomas College women's soccer team saw its North Atlantic Conference Tournament chances fall into jeopardy following a 4-0 loss at Maine Maritime Academy on Tuesday.
The Mariners jumped out to the early 1-0 lead as Tori Cooper scored off a free kick that curved into the net in the fifth minute.
Maine Maritime added to its advantage with a pair of goals four minutes apart midway through the first half. Makayla Lewis found the back of the net in the 18th minute on a ball played up by Morgan Libby to make it 2-0 and Susana DeFrank added a score in the 22nd minute when she bounced a ball off a Thomas defender and laid out to put a ball past Terrier goalkeeper Paige Leary (Palermo, Maine / Erskine Academy).
Cooper converted a penalty kick in the 61st minute to complete the scoring.
The Mariners controlled the game in terms of both possession and tempo, tallying 26 shots to the Terriers' four.
Bronte Howorth (Austin, Texas / Lincoln-Sudbury) led Thomas offensively with two shots on goal, while Leary finished with nine saves.
The Mariners improve to 8-6-1 overall and 5-1-1 in the NAC, while Thomas falls to 6-9 on the season and 3-5 in conference play.
Thomas hosts Johnson State (5-9, 3-5 NAC) at 1 p.m. Saturday in the regular-season finale.
