BRUNSWICK, ME --- The Thomas College men's cross country team placed 10th of 11 teams Saturday at the Maine State Cross Country Championships at Bowdoin College.
The Terriers finished with 285 points, just nine back of ninth-place Husson and 16 ahead of 11th-place St. Joseph's. Bates (24), Colby (45) and Bowdoin (55) dominated the field, accounting for 24 of the top 25 runners in the field.
Junior Nick Kopf (Hampden, Maine / Hampden Academy) was Thomas' top runner on the 8-kilometer course at the Pickard Field Cross Country Course. He finished 58th overall in 27:56.5, accounting for 36th-place points. Freshman Ethan Harriman (Readfield, Maine / Maranacook) was 70th in 28:29.2 for 41 placement points.
Fellow freshman Trystan Mercier (Boothbay, Maine / Boothbay Region) was 117th (30:25.1; 65 points), senior Sam Cook (Plymouth, Mass. / Plymouth South) 128th (30:58.0; 72 points) and freshman Dillon Sullivan (New Gloucester, Maine / Gray-New Gloucester) 132nd (31:18.1; 72 points) to round out the Terriers' top five. Thomas also received displacement points from sophomore Forrest Labbe (Sidney, Maine / Messalonskee) in 134th (31:19.2; 73 points) and freshman Richie Drown (Biddeford, Maine / Biddeford) in 144th (32:19.8; 75 points).
Also competing for the Terriers were freshmen Tito Naranja (Fort Kent, Maine / Fort Kent; 152nd, 33:00.5) and Jordan Gibson (Marietta, Ga. / Alan C. Pope; 177th, 38:33.6) and sophomores Cole Barney (Barre, Vt. / Northfield; 159th, 33:42.5) and Josh Devou (Levant, Maine / Hermon; 165th, 34:38.7).
Thomas closes out the pre-championship portion of its schedule Friday when it hosts the Thomas Invitational.
