STANDISH, ME — Thomas College junior Thomas Kopf (Hampden, Maine / Hampden Academy) finished fifth out of 123 runners to lead the Terriers to a fourth-place team finish at the Runnin' Monks Invitational hosted by St. Joseph's College.
Kopf completed the 8-kilometer course in 29 minutes, 3 seconds — roughly 90 seconds back of individual champion Robert Hollis of Maine-Farmington (27:33.8).
Freshman Ethan Harriman (Readfield, Maine / Maranacook) was the next Terrier across the finish line, placing 11th in 29:51.0. Sophomore Aron MacLean (Fairfield, Maine / Lawrence) was 25th (30:42.1), followed by freshmen Tito Naranja (Fort Kent, Maine / Fort Kent) in 32nd (31:17.1) and Trystan Mercier (Boothbay, Maine / Boothbay Region) in 40th (31:33.1) to account for Thomas' five counting scores.
Sophomore Forrest Labbe (Sidney, Maine / Messalonskee) in 46th place (31:53.9) and senior Sam Cook (Plymouth, Mass. / Plymouth South) in 59th place (32:37.8) served as displacers as the sixth and seventh Thomas runners to finish.
Six other Thomas runners competed at the event, but were outside of the team's top seven -- freshman Dylan Sullivan (71st, 33:43.0), freshman Richie Drown (74th, 33:48.5), sophomore Jasen Dickey (87th, 34:48.7), sophomore Cole Barney (97th, 36:40.4), sophomore Josh Devou (100th, 37:29.0) and freshman Jordan Gibson (111th, 40:58.8).
The Terriers finished with 113 points, good for fourth overall behind Maine-Farmington (56), Lasell (101) and the University of New England (108).
Thomas returns to competition Saturday, October 17 at the Maine State Championship hosted by Bowdoin College at the Pickard Field Cross Country Course in Brunswick. The men's race will begin at 4:00 p.m.
