POULTNEY, VT – The women's soccer team used a pair of goals off of direct kicks from Jenn Day to oust Green Mountain College 5-0 in North Atlantic Conference action on Sunday afternoon at Eagles Game Field.

The victory marked the first NAC win of the season for Thomas.

Green Mountain (1-7-0, 0-2-0 NAC) started the game strong creating several scoring opportunities within the first ten minutes of play, but could not find the range on any of its shots.

Thomas (4-6-0, 1-2-0 NAC) caught an early break in the 28th minute of play as Elizabeth McPhillips corralled a loose ball about thirty yards out and lofted a ball towards goal that just bent into the net above the outstretched arms of GMC's keeper Kim Simonetti. The goal was the second of the year for McPhillips.

GMC looked to have notched a marker in the 34th minute, but Rebecca Girouard's shot from close in rang off the crossbar, denying the Eagles a goal.

The Terriers struck again in the 41st minute of action as Bronte Howorth found a seam in the middle and dribbled in toward goal and beat the Eagle keeper for her fifth goal of the season to extend the lead to 2-0 heading into intermission.

After half, Thomas was awarded a penalty kick after an Eagle defender fouled a player in the box. Sara Moynihan was initially denied on the penalty kick on a nice save by Simonetti, but to Moynihan's credit, she followed her shot and put home the rebound for her second goal.

Day went to work on direct kicks for the visitor's last two goals. She notched both markers above the outstretched arms of the Eagles' keeper to claim her first and second goals of the season.

Paige Leary (four saves) and Kira Buker (two saves) split the shutout in net for the Terriers with Leary picking up the victory. Simonetti took the loss for the Eagles after stopping five shots.

Thomas returns home to host Regis College in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday night at 5pm.
