Box Score CASTINE, ME – Thomas College (0-1) was unable to secure a win in their first contest of the 2014 season, falling to Berry College (1-0), 9-0 in the first day of the Old Town Canoe Classic hosted by Maine Maritime Academy.
The Vikings attacked early, with two saves coming from Thomas netminder Paige Leary. Berry got on the board at the 7:59 mark on an own goal by the Terriers, then added another tally one minute later when Maggie Midkiff found the back of the twine.
Berry would go on to add two more goals to by the end of the first half, Leary went to halftime with five saves for the Terriers.
One minute into the second half Isabel Fornuto added another marker for Berry at 46:37. The Vikings proceeded on scoring four more to take the season-opener 9-0.
Leary ended with seven saves in her first start for the Red and Black, while Ashley Gooden made two stops in her collegiate debut.
Thomas will take on Becker College on Sunday, August 31 in the final day of the Old Town Canoe Classic. First kick scheduled for 11:00 am.
