WATERVILLE, ME – The Thomas College women's soccer team used two second-half goals by junior Bronte Howorth to defeat Lyndon State College 2-0 in a rainy affair on Saturday afternoon at Smith Field.

The first half of play consisted of lots of back and forth action, with neither team taking control of the game early.  The Terriers (5-7, 2-2 NAC) held an 11-4 shot advantage over the Hornets (4-8, 0-4 NAC) in the first half, but neither team could find the back of the net, as they went into the half in a scoreless deadlock.

The tie would hold until the 62nd minute, when a pass from Elizabeth McPhillips found Howorth, whose shot trickled through the legs of Lyndon goalkeeper Julianna Anderson to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead.

Just nine minutes later, Howorth would strike again, launching a left-footed shot that found the back of the net just over Anderson's fingertips to give the Thomas a two-goal advantage, which would hold until the end of the game.

In net for Thomas, Paige Leary stopped three shots to record her second shutout of the season.  For Lyndon, Anderson had multiple diving saves on the day to stop would-be Terrier goals. Overall, Anderson stopped 10 shots throughout the game.

The women's soccer team will next take to the road to take on the Eagles of Husson in a North Atlantic Conference contest on Tuesday, October 7 at 5:00pm.
