PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – The Thomas College women's basketball team defeated the University of Maine-Presque Isle 72-56 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest on Wednesday evening for their seventh straight NAC win to start the year.
Malorie Weaver (Palermo, Maine) led the way for Thomas with a game-high 24 points to go along with eight rebounds. Supporting her was Addie Brinkman (Farmington, Maine) who notched 17 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Kaylee Ravagli (Lowell, Mass.) was Thomas' third leading scorer with 13 points, seven assists, four steals and four blocks. The Terriers leading rebounder was Anna Piirainen (West Paris, Maine) who had 13 boards along with three points, three assists and three steals.
Thomas dominated around the basket outrebounding the Owls 42-32, and outscoring UMPI in the paint 40-18.
The game started off evenly with back and forth action in the early minutes, but Thomas was able to grab a 18-11 after the opening frame. The Terriers opened the second period on a 16-9 run through the first eight minutes to gain their largest lead of the half at 34-22.
Thomas came out of the intermission strong going on a 13-5 run over the first six minutes of the third quarter. A buzzer-beating layup by Nikki Bradstreet (Topsham, Maine) put Thomas ahead 55-40 to end the period. The Terriers reached their largest lead of the game at the eight-minute mark in the final ten minutes with a score of 63-43. Thomas would cruise onto the 72-56 victory when the final buzzer sounded.
The Terriers' next matchup will be on Thursday, January 23 against Norwich University at 5:00 PM in Larry Mahaney Gymnasium.
