CANTON, N.Y. – The Thomas College women's basketball team earned their first victory of the season, defeating SUNY Canton 66-48 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener on Friday evening.
Karli Stubbs (Auburn, Maine) scored a career-high 23 points to lead the Terriers to the victory. The senior shot 9-15 (60.0%) from the field and 5-9 (55.6%) from three-point range while pulling in six rebounds.
Addie Brinkman (Farmington, Maine) recorded a double-double, dropping 18 points with 14 rebounds, the latter of which tied a career-high. Malorie Weaver (Palermo, Maine) added 12 points with eight boards for Thomas.
The Terriers dominated around the basket, outrebounding the Roos 49-35 and scoring 28 points in the point to SUNY Canton's 12. Fifteen of Thomas' rebounds were offensive, leading to 10 second-chance points.
After SUNY Canton held the lead through much of the first half, Thomas took control late in the second, holding a 23-20 lead at halftime. The Terriers offensive was ignited in the second half, scoring 22 points in the third quarter and 21 in the fourth to separate themselves and take the 66-48 victory.
Thomas will play in the second game of a NAC back-to-back at SUNY Canton on Saturday, December 7 at 1:00 PM.
