PRESQUE ISLE, ME – Thomas was unable to come away with a victory at the Star City Classic, falling to host University of Maine at Presque Isle 55-44 on Sunday afternoon. With the loss the Terriers fall to 0-2 to start off the 2013-14 campaign.
Thomas was able to only muster 10 points in the opening half, shooting a mere 19% (4-21) from the floor and unable to hit a three pointer in four chances. Both teams were tied at ten apiece at the eight minute mark, but the Owls would go on a 10-0 run to end the half. Sophomore Emilee Reynolds had game-highs with six points and nine rebounds to end the first half as the Terriers trailed 20-10.
The second half saw both teams increase their offensive attack, as both squads improved shooting from the floor. Thomas, who shot 50% (13-26) from the court, scored 34 points in the second half to try and steal a victory from UMPI. The Terriers were led by Morgan Hutchins, who put up a second half high of 10 points off the bench. Lexi Merrifeild contributed with seven points, despite Thomas ultimately falling 55-44 in the contest.
Hutchins had a team-high 10 points, while Reynolds led the squad with a career-high 12 rebounds.
Thomas shot 36.2% (17-47) overall from the field in the losing effort.
The Terriers will host University of Maine-Augusta on Tuesday at 5:30pm.
