WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College men's soccer team fell to Bowdoin College 3-1 on Wednesday evening in a non-conference game at Smith Field.
Bowdoin got on the board early in the match when Julian Juantorena slid a pass to Charlie Ward, who fired a perfect shot to the top left corner of the goal from 25 yards out to make it 1-0. The Polar Bears doubled their lead in the 26th minute when a goal kick by Bowdoin made two deflections and found it's way to Alex Chaban who settled just outside the 18 and nailed the bottom left corner for the score. Drake Byrd made it 3-0 in the 40th minute when he carried the ball up the left side and struck a shot from the 18 that found the back of the net. The Terriers answered quickly to narrow the deficit, with Drew Parsons (Farmington, Maine) scoring on a penalty kick after a Bowdoin foul in the box to make it 3-1 at the half.
Both sides had limited scoring opportunities in the second half, with each getting two shots on goal in the period. Neither were able to get one through as the match ended 3-1.
Michael Webber took the win for Bowdoin, stopping three of four shots. Jonathan LeClair (Belmont, N.H.) was tagged with the loss, making two saves on five shots. John Villanueva (Gray, Maine) came on for the second half and stopped both shots he faced.
Thomas will host SUNY Delhi in a North Atlantic Conference match on Saturday, October 19 at 1:00 PM as part of Homecoming and Family Weekend.
