WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College men's basketball team fell to UMaine-Presque Isle 87-86 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Quarterfinal game on Saturday afternoon at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium.
Thomas was led by Jordan Goodson (Orlando, Fla.) who scored 17 points and had four steals. Lovegeurson Fleurine (Fort Pierce, Fla.) notched a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Jacob Godfrey (Machias, Maine) and Justin Butler (Orlando, Fla.) also added 14 points, while Zach Mackinnon (Kennebunk, Maine) tacked on 13 points.
UMPI took a lead early one, going ahead 17-9 with 12:36 on the clock in the first. The Owls continued to stretch the lead and went up 29-14 with 9:02 to go in the half. Thomas turned it around and went on a 25-14 run to cut the UMPI lead to 43-39 at the half.
The Owls regained their double-digit lead over the first few minutes of the second half, going up 61-44. The Terriers were able to chip away again and eventually tied the game 83-83 with two minutes remaining in the game. Thomas took their first lead since the early minutes of the game with a Butler three-pointer with 1:11 to go in the game to put the Terriers up 86-83. After an UMPI layup made it 86-85, the Owls hit a pair of free throws to go ahead 87-86. The Terriers had an opportunity to regain the lead in the final seconds, but they could not get the shot to land and the Owls took the 87-86 win.
