WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College men's basketball team defeated Northern Vermont University-Johnson 68-58 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) outing on Saturday evening in Larry Mahaney Gymnasium.
Justin Butler (Orlando, Fla.) led the Terriers in both the scoring and rebounding column, recording a double-double with 20 points, 10 rebounds and 4 steals. Thomas' second leading scorer came off the bench as Jordan Goodson (Orlando, Fla.) notched 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists, four steals and nine made foul shots. Lovegeurson Fleurine (Fort Pierce, Fla.) followed with 10 points, five rebounds and three steals.
The Terriers shot the ball well from the field posting a 52.2% field goal percentage and outscored the Badgers in the paint 40-22.
The game started off with back and forth action until an eight-minute stretch just before the midway point of the first half when Thomas went on an 26-11 run. The lead held throughout the last five minutes, and Thomas took a 39-27 advantage at the intermission.
The Terriers came out of the gate strong in the second half, obtaining a 17-point lead, their game high, eight minutes into the period. Johnson fought back cutting the Thomas lead to five after going on a 19-7 run over a seven-minute stretch, but the Terriers had enough to outlast the Badgers 68-58 at the final buzzer.
Thomas will be at the University of Maine-Presque Isle on Wednesday, January 22 at 7:30 to take on the Owls in another NAC contest.
