FH: Faulkingham Scores Hat Trick, Terriers Trounce UMF 7-0

WATERVILLE, Maine – Kelci Faulkingham (Belfast, Maine) scored her first career hat trick to lead the Thomas College field hockey team to a 7-0 non-conference win over UMaine-Farmington on Wednesday evening at Bernatchez Field.

After a scoreless first, Thomas went up 1-0 in the 18th minute when Faulkingham slid a pass following a corner entry to Haley Thebarge (Smithfield, Maine) who hammered it home. Three minutes later, Lindsey Gregoire (Kennebunk, Maine) carried the ball up field into the UMF end, bringing it inside the circle and making a move around the defender that sent the ball towards the end line. Gregoire dove to the ball, saving the play and delivering a perfect pass to Britney Gregoire (Kennebunk, Maine) in front for the easy goal to go up 2-0 at the half.

Thomas erupted for four goals in the third to go ahead 6-0. Allie Gregoire (Kennebunk, Maine) scored the first in the 34th minute when Thebarge found her at the far post with a perfect pass from near the top of the circle. Lindsey Gregoire scored the next two minutes later, collecting a rebound out in front and slamming it home. Gregoire's goal marked the second time the three Gregoire sisters have each scored in a game, with the first coming in the NECC semifinals against Becker last season.

Faulkingham made it three goals in three minutes in the 37th minute, driving in a shot from the point on an Allie Gregoire corner insert. Faulkingham got another at the end of the period, firing a laser of a shot from distance that just found the far side of the goal.

Faulkingham finished the hat trick in the fourth on another corner insert by Gregoire, taking a shot that deflected up off a UMF defender and in for the 7-0 victory.

Alexis Bowman (Freedom, Maine) made her first career start in goal, earning the two-save shutout win. Katelyn Rouleau took the loss for Farmington, making three saves in the first three quarters before being relieved by Grace DiMarco in the fourth.

Thomas will open their New England Collegiate Conference schedule on Saturday, October 5, traveling to Becker for a 4:00 PM game.
