HALLOWELL, Maine – The Thomas College Ice Hockey team defeated Bates College 8-4 on Saturday evening at the Camden National Bank Ice Vault.
The Terriers got on the board early in the first, with Hunter Hughes (Lewiston, Maine) scoring his first career goal. The Bobcats answered right back to tie it 1-1 mid way through the period. Jake Stevens (Presque Isle, Maine) notched his second of the season on a tip-in goal with five minutes left in the first to put Thomas ahead 2-1, but Bates had an answer once again to send the teams into the intermission tied 2-2.
Michael Deveaux (Brunswick, Maine) scored his first career goal a minute and a half into the second period to put the Terriers up once again, but Bates kept the back-and-forth affair going with a score that tied it 3-3 midway through the period. Thomas was able to distance themselves from the Bobcats in the final minutes of the second, scoring four goals in five minutes. Stevens scored his second of the game, followed by goals by Rahjan Munnings (Providenciales, Turks and Caicos), Matthew Deveaux (Brunswick, Maine) and Ryan Kappelmann (Auburn, Maine) to give the Terriers a 7-3 lead at the second intermission.
Justin Wentworth (China, Maine) scored 33 second into the period on a breakaway sprung by Jaymen Swygert (Summerville, S.C.) to make it 8-3. Bates scored one late in the period to make it an 8-4 final.
Thomas will host the University of Maine on Sunday, December 8 at 5:30 PM at the Ice Vault.
