Eddie Mathews was named head coach of the women's tennis progam in August of 2016.
Mathews comes to Thomas after spending the last five seasons as the team manager for the men's program at NCAA Division I Florida State University. While in Tallahassee, he was responsible for equipment orders, racquet weighting and balancing, racquet stringing and on-court drilling.
Mathews has also been heavily involved in the Seminole High Performance Tennis Camps at Florida State. In his capacity as a development coach (2012-2016), he was in charge of instruction and organization for players aged 8-18 and served as co-director of the 10-and-under program. Mathews also served as a camp dorm director and group leader (2013-2016) where he was responsible for providing oversight of on-court management for approximately 75 junior elite tennis players, including the top-ranked junior players in the states of Florida, Georgia and Texas.
From 2013-2016, he served as an instructor and mentor for college students who compete in national Tennis on Campus events as a clinic director for the Florida State club program.
Mathews was also the head coach at Holy Comforter Episcopal School from 2011-2013 and the Ladies Clinic co-director and adult coach at Killearn Country Club.
An accomplished player, he holds a 5.0 rating in the National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) and has been ranked as high as No. 4 on the Tallahassee men's open ranking ladder. He competed for three years on the "A" team in Florida State's club program.
A native of Winter Haven, Florida, Matthews was a four-year varsity starter and two-time individual district champion at Winter Haven High School.
