WATERVILLE, ME – The Thomas College women's tennis team opened up their 2016 season with a 5-4 victory over the University of Southern Maine Thursday afternoon at the Harold Alfond Athletic Center.
The win moves the Terriers to 1-0 early in their season while the loss drops the Huskies to 0-1.
Lindsey Allen (Jay, Maine / Spruce Mountain) and Olivia Mora (Surry, Maine / Ellsworth) opened up the contest with an 8-6 doubles victory over Deb Attalla and Liz Martin. The Terriers earned another doubles victory with Amelia Guimond (Fort Kent, Maine / Fort Kent) and Mia Navarro (Willimantic, Conn. / Windham) winning their match 8-6.
Allen went on to win her number one singles match, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 and Mora came out victorious in number two singles, 6-0, 6-1. Guimond dropped her number three singles contest 2-6, 1-6, while Sarah Vigue (Dexter, ME / Dexter) fell in number five singles 0-6, 0-6. Navarro gave the Terriers the overall victory with her win in number four singles, 6-3, 7-5.
The Terriers will return to action on Saturday, September 10, as they face Husson in a 1:00 p.m. contest at the Harold Alfond Athletic Center.
