Jill Cristan Resigns as Thomas Women's Tennis Coach

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Jill Cristan has resigned as head women's tennis coach at Thomas College, Director of Athletics David Roussel announced Tuesday.

"I have accepted a new teaching position within the Waterville Public Schools, a change that will not afford me the time or scheduling freedom to continue coaching women's tennis at Thomas College," said Cristan.

"I want to thank Coach Cristan for leading the Thomas women's tennis program the last two years and wish her all the best in her new position," added Roussel. "She was a good teacher of the game and respected by her players and peers."

In two seasons under Cristan, the Terriers were 8-14 overall and 5-8 in NEAC East Division play. Thomas qualified for the NEAC East Division tournament in 2014, falling to eventual champion Colby-Sawyer in the semifinals.

In addition, two Terriers earned All-NEAC East Division honors -- Jessica Bowen was a first-team selection in both singles and doubles in 2014, while Lindsey Allen was a first-team doubles selection with Bowen in 2014 and earned first-team singles honors in 2015.

A search for Cristan's replacement will begin immediately.

Thomas opens the 2016 campaign on September 1 when Southern Maine visits the Alfond Athletic Center.
