WATERVILLE, ME- The women's tennis team enjoyed a successful 2012 season under second-year Head Coach Lauren Bickford. The team went 5-5 in the conference including big wins against Lyndon State and Johnson State.
Jessica Bowen (Lewiston, Maine) and Tyler Ventura (Atkinson, Maine) earned North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) All-Conference Accolades. Bowen claimed Singles First-Team honors, while Bowen and Ventura were named to Doubles First-Team.
Senior captain Sarah Marckoon (Lamoine, Maine) was named to the 2012 NEAC East Division All-Tournament Team. She finished the season off with three victories in her singles play, along with winning six doubles matches. On October 8th, Sophomore Dalia Williams (Boston, Mass) and Freshman Ventura were selected as the NEAC Player of the Week and NEAC Rookie of the Week, respectively.
The Terriers ended the season earning the third seed in the 2012 NEAC East Division Women's Tennis Championship. Thomas was defeated 5-3 by Castleton to end their season.
Coach Bickford was selected as the NEAC Coach of the Year for the 2012 season. The tennis program has seen a dramatic turnaround since Coach Bickford's hiring, with an increase in wins each season. The 2012 squad made school history by reaching the NEAC playoffs for the first time in school history.
The close of the 2012 season campaign signaled the end of the NCAA women's tennis career for Sarah Marckoon. Marckoon will graduate this upcoming spring from Thomas College with a degree in Forensic Accounting.
