Ventura Shines in Debut as Women's Tennis Falls to Southern Maine

WATERVILLE, ME- The Thomas College women's tennis team fell 8-1 to University of Southern Maine in the 2012 season opener Friday night in Waterville, Maine.

Freshman Tyler Ventura (Atkinson, N.H.) led the Terriers with the lone team victory, sweeping Courtney Aldrich (Lewiston, Maine) of USM with a solid 6-1, 6-1 set scores.

Reigning North East Athletic Conference (NEAC) Rookie of the Year Jessica Bowen (Lewiston, Maine) fought hard in her first set losing 7-5, but dropped the second 6-1 taking the loss against Mary Moran (Windham, Maine).

In doubles, Meaghan Keene (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Emily Howard (Augusta, Maine) were able to win three sets, but would eventually fall to Monique Giroux (Troy, N.H.) and Christine Savage (Caribou, Maine) of Southern Maine.

The women's tennis team will next compete against in-conference opponent Castleton State College Saturday, Sept. 8 at Harold Alfond Athletic Center. First match's scheduled for 2pm.
