WATERVILLE, ME- The yearly Pre-season reports have been released for the 2012 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Women's Tennis season and Thomas has been picked to finish fourth.
Led by second year head coach Lauren Bickford, the first match of the season will be Friday, Aug. 31 against in-state rival University of Southern Maine.
Colby-Sawyer College received four first-place votes and was selected to win the North Eastern Athletic Conference East Division Championship in a recent poll of the league's coaches.
The Chargers received 34 points in the poll and return all but one starter from last year's team which finished runner-up to Castleton State College in last year's championship by the slimmest of margins. Liz Lincoln, who went undefeated in NAC action a season ago, sits atop the Charger depth chart with fellow all-conference first teamer, and doubles partner Claire Toffey at number-two singles.
Winners of three-straight NEAC East titles, the Spartans picked second and received a pair of first-place votes. Castleton will need to fill the voids left by three first-team singles players, including three-time Player of the Year Michelle Podnecky and 2011 NEAC East Championship MVP Kate Bucci.
