Women's Soccer Edged by Husson, 2-1

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College women's soccer team fell short of Husson, 2-1, in their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener on Saturday afternoon at Smith Field.

In the defeat, the Terriers now fall to 0-5 (0-1 NAC) while the Eagles move to 2-3 (1-0 NAC) on the year.

The Eagles offense tested the Terriers defense and keeper Kayla Gordon (Wiscasset, Maine) early in the first half.  Husson broke through with a goal in the 14th minute as Morgan Carver received a through ball from Leah Hibbad.  Carver's shot deflected off the fingertips of Gordon and in for an early 1-0 lead.

The lead was short-lived as the Terriers responded just over two minutes later with a goal of their own.  After a corner kick, Taylor Peno (Hooksett, N.H.) found Molly Carroll (Southwest Harbor, Maine) in front of the goal as she finished for her first collegiate point.

Husson took the lead back later on in the 59th minute as Carver added her second goal of the game on a through ball from Megan Connor.  The Terriers came up short in the final seconds of the game as Taznae Fubler's (Smiths, Bermuda) free kick from the left side flew just over the crossbar to finish the game at 2-1.

Gordon finished with a strong 13 saves in goal for Thomas, while Sami Ireland was given the win for the Eagles.

Husson outshot Thomas 28-3 and held a 14-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Terriers continue NAC play on Tuesday, September 19 as they travel to Maine Maritime Academy for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
