WATERVILLE, ME – The Thomas College women's soccer team dropped a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest to the University of Maine at Farmington, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at Smith Field.
The Terriers fall to 1-8 (1-3 NAC) on the season in the loss while the Beavers move above the .500 mark at 5-4 (3-2 NAC). Ashley Gleason led the Beavers' offense with a hat trick in the victory.
Gleason netted her first of the game to get her team on the board at the 15th minute on a feed from Lydia Roy. Farmington increased their lead before the half as Hadlee Yescott scored her sixth goal of the season in the 30th minute.
In the second half, Gleason scored two more goals in the 60th and 65th to raise the Beaver lead to 4-0 with 25 minutes to play. The Terriers got themselves on the board late in the 80th minute as Kayla Bess (Madison, Maine / Madison) chipped in her team-high fourth goal of the season from Cassie Contigiani (Belmont, N.H. / Belmont).
Paige Leary (Palermo, Maine / Erskine Academy) turned aside 18 shots for the Terriers in the loss while Kiana Thompson made three saves in goal for the Beavers' victory. UMF outshot Thomas 32-9 and held a 9-6 advantage in corners.
The Terriers will head to Vermont on Saturday, October 8, as they face Green Mountain in a 1:00 p.m. NAC contest.
