WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College women's lacrosse team fell short of Lyndon State College, 11-8, in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon at Smith Field.
The Hornets near the .500 mark at 5-6 (1-5 NAC) while the Terriers fall to 1-11 (0-6 NAC).
The Terriers jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the first ten minutes of play on goals from Carina Iacozzi (Atkinson, N.H.) and Alexis Felch (Laconia, N.H.). The Hornets offense ignited for five unanswered goals to take a 6-2 advantage behind three goals from Elizabeth Start and a pair of markers by Mikayla Hodge. Before the half, the Terriers outscored Lyndon 4-1, including two from Kimberly Banks (Swan's Island, Maine) and one from Felch and Meredith Wheeler (Westbrook, Maine) to cut the deficit to 7-6 at the break.
In the second half, the Hornets extended their lead to 9-7 at the midway point on tallies from Hodge and Danielle Kuiper. Senior Madison Bentz (Algonquin, Ill.) made it 9-8 with 9:48 remaining in the contest. Lyndon held off a Thomas rally with a pair of goals to finish the scoring at 11-8.
Hodge finished with six goals, one assist, and six ground balls in the win while Start ended with three goals, two assists, and six ground balls.
Banks held a team-high three goals, eight caused turnovers, and eight ground balls in the effort. Felch recorded two goals on eight shots.
Paige Daley made ten saves in goal for Lyndon while Sydni Collier stopped 15 shots for the Terriers.
The Terriers will host senior day on Monday, April 23 against Maine Maritime.
