WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College women's lacrosse team fell to the University of Southern Maine, 14-5, in a non-conference contest on Wednesday night at Bernatchez Field.
The Huskies improve to 6-4 in the victory while the Terriers drop down to 1-8 overall.
Southern Maine raced out to a big lead, scoring eight unanswered goals in the first 15 minutes of play including three markers from Aliza Jordan. The Terriers got on the board with a goal before the break from Nikki Bradstreet (Topsham, Maine).
The Huskies pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Terriers by a 6-4 margin to finish at 14-5.
Jordan, Ruth Nadeau, and Alex Farley each recorded a hat trick and combined five assists for the Huskies. Defensively, Collen Fleming and Dorina Sirois held a team-high four caused turnovers while Fleming picked up eight ground balls.
The Terriers saw five different scorers in the effort with Bradstreet, Darrian Leonardi (Thomaston, Maine), Kimberly Banks (Swan's Island, Maine), Cassidy West (Vassalboro, Maine), and Amira Jones (Chicopee, Mass.).
Mariah Vaillancourt earned the win for the Huskies before being relieved by Miriam Wood in the second half. Sydni Collier (Oakland, Maine) made three saves for Thomas.
The Terriers will travel to Castleton on Saturday, April 14 for a conference matchup.
