BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Thomas College women's lacrosse team opened the 2018 season with a 19-2 loss at the University of New England on Friday afternoon.
The Terriers drop down to 0-1 after their first contest while the Nor'easters improve to 3-2.
The Nor'easters' offense took control in the opening minutes as they tallied seven goals in the first 13:43 of play including four from Natasha Nary. UNE tacked on another seven unanswered markers to finish the first half as Caitlyn Irish recorded a hat trick in a six-minute span for a 14-0 lead.
The Terriers broke the shutout over a minute into the second frame as sophomore Alexis Felch (Laconia, N.H.) scored on a free position shot. The Nor'easters recorded three more goals before senior Amira Jones (Chicopee, Mass.) netted the second Thomas marker. UNE added two goals before the final buzzer to finish the scoring at 19-2.
Nary led all players with five goals and three assists for UNE while Irish finished with four goals and two assists.
Felch and Jones each recorded a goal for Thomas while Darrian Leonardi (Thomaston, Maine) scooped up three ground balls.
Taylor Hopkins earned the win in goal for the Nor'easters with two saves while Sydni Collier (Oakland, Maine) shouldered the loss for the Terriers with 12 saves.
The Terriers next matchup will be on Saturday, March 24 as they travel to Curry College.
