LaVallee, Greenlaw Named to All-NAC Second Team; Fox to Sportsmanship Team

WHITINGHAM, Vt. --- Thomas College junior attacker Sophia LaVallee (Pawling, N.Y. / Pawling) and sophomore midfielder Samantha Greenlaw (Windham, Maine / Windham) have been named to the All-North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Second Team for the 2016 season, the conference office announced Friday morning.

Greenlaw, who started all 11 games for the Terriers in 2016, led the team in scoring with 35 points on 21 goals and 14 assists. She was also 3-for-7 on free-position attempts, scooped up 35 ground balls, controlled 19 draws and caused 22 turnovers. Greenlaw recorded at least one point in every game and scored a goal in every game except the season finale at UMaine-Farmington on April 25. She topped out at seven points on five goals and two assists in a 14-4 win over Johnson State on April 5.

LaVallee also started all 11 games, ranking third on the team with 19 points on 15 goals and four assists. She was 2-for-7 on free-position attempts, had 17 ground balls, controlled three draws and caused seven turnovers. Save for an assist at Norwich on March 9, all of her scoring came during NAC play. LaVallee scored multiple goals in a game on five occasions, including four in a 12-0 shutout of Maine Maritime on March 30. She also posted three goals and three assists in the Johnson State game and three goals in an 11-5 loss at Husson on April 20.

New to the conference this season is the selection of a Sportsmanship Team which is reserved for those who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior. The honorees are individuals who have positively affected the women's lacrosse culture and game environment and whose behavior clearly demonstrates sportsmanship and integrity that go beyond the playing rules and etiquette. Senior Brittany Fox (Lovell, Maine) was Thomas' honoree on this year's team.

Fox started all 11 games in goal this season, allowing 110 goals and making 100 saves in just under 600 minutes. She ranks third among NAC goalies in fewest goals allowed, fourth in save percentage (47.6 percent) and fifth in goals-against average.

Conference champion Castleton secured the bulk of the major honors as senior Brianna MacKay was selected as NAC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Year, while Spartan classmate Meghan Els was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year. New England College freshman Tara Bainbridge earned Rookie of the Year honors, Castleton senior Rachel Bombardier was voted the Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year and Castleton head coach Hannah Corkery Collins was chosen as the Coach of the Year.

NAC All-Conference selections are determined by a vote of the conference coaches.

The Terriers finished the season 2-9 overall and 2-6 in the NAC under interim head coach Deb Biche-Labbe.
