WATERVILLE, Maine --- Thomas College Director of Athletics David Roussel has announced the hiring of Deb Biche-Labbe as the interim head women's lacrosse coach for the 2016 season.
Biche-Labbe, who also serves as associate director of athletics, senior woman administrator and head women's soccer coach, takes over for Jennifer Nardi, who resigned in January.
"After extensive consideration and a careful review of the applications we received for the position, I am pleased to announce that Deb Biche-Labbe has been appointed as the women’s lacrosse coach for the upcoming spring season," said Roussel. "Deb is very driven and has a great depth of experience in athletics (coaching and administration). She is a full-time member of the athletic department, has extensive knowledge about our women’s lacrosse program, Thomas, the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) and athletics in New England. I am confident that Deb will provide our student-athletes with a positive experience, have our team prepared to compete in every game and build upon the strong tradition of our women's program."
"In addition to appointing Deb as the head coach, we are planning to add an assistant or two for the program," Roussel added. "The assistants being considered at this time have extensive lacrosse coaching experience. The 2016 women's lacrosse coaching staff will be excellent and will work together to get the most out of our team. We all want the team to be successful this year while making another deep run in the NAC playoffs. I’m excited to see our team develop this spring."
"I can't wait for the opportunity to work with [the team] this year and can't wait to get started, said Biche-Labbe.
Biche-Labbe, a Waterville, Maine native, also served as the college's director of athletics for nearly three years (2009-2011) before returning to coaching.
Prior to becoming the AD at Thomas, Biche-Labbe served as the head women's soccer coach at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y. from 1998-2008. While at St. Lawrence, she led the Saints to a record of 137-90-15. She also assisted with the women's lacrosse program in 1999 and 2000, helping lead St. Lawrence to a 15-14 record.
Biche-Labbe also served as a women's soccer assistant at NCAA Division I Davidson College (1996-1998) and the head women's soccer coach at Saint Joseph's College (1993-1996). At SJC, she posted a 33-17-4 record.
Biche-Labbe is a 1992 graduate of Plymouth State where she received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a Minor in Coaching. In 1993, she earned her Master of Science from Ithaca.
