CASTINE, ME - The Thomas women's lacrosse team dominated from start to finish in a 20-0 victory over Maine Maritime Academy in a North Atlantic Conference contest on Wednesday evening. Jennifer Day scored a season-high eight goals and Brittany Fox recorded six saves in the shutout win.
Day wasted no time getting herself and the Terrier offense going, scoring two goals within the first three minutes of play. The scoring would continue as Samantha Greenlaw, Joanna Murch, Sophia LaVallee and Brittany Premo all scored one goal apiece in the first half, with Day netting another from the free position and on the advantage to end the half with five goals.
Thomas (3-0, 2-0 NAC) went into halftime with a 9-0 lead as they held the Mariners (0-5, 0-2 NAC) to just three shots.
The offensive firepower would not let up in half number two, as the Terriers added 11 more goals before the final horn. Mayson Picard and Toral Nelson each registered their first goals on the season, while Erin Nelligan notched her seventh.
Day's eight-goal effort marked her second highest for a single-game in her career. LaVallee and Premo each scored three times and Murch twice. Fox earned the win in net on her first start of the season.
Thomas forced 26 Mariner turnovers and limited them to 10 total shots. Ashlee Knight made eight saves in goal for Maine Maritime and Briana Obshatkin had a team-high three ground-balls.
The Terriers will return to the field on Saturday, March 28 for a showdown against the Castleton State College Spartans in their home opener. Face-off is set for 1:00 PM.
