PATACHOGUE, NY – Thomas College suffered their first loss of the season, falling to Saint Joseph's College (L.I.), 17-5 in a non-conference women's lacrosse contest on Wednesday afternoon. The game is the first of two that the Terriers will play on their spring trip to New York this week.
Thomas was able to crack the scoreboard first with a tally by Erin Nelligan at 28:07. The hosts however proceeded on a 6-0 run to take an early advantage in the first half. Two goals by the Red and Black cut the gap to 6-3 at 13:06 in the opening stanza, but SJC scored five more consecutive goals to go into halftime with a comfortable 11-3 lead.
The Terriers found the back of the net twice more in the second, but were outscored 6-2 in the closing half by the Eagles.
Brittany Fox suffered the loss between the pipes, registering five saves.
Overall, SJC held a 23-21 advantage in groundballs and a 14-9 edge in draw controls. The Eagles also outshot Thomas 26-18 in the victory.
The Terriers will return to the turf tomorrow as they take on Mt. St. Vincent in their final contest of their New York spring trip.
