WATERVILLE, ME- The Thomas women's lacrosse team improved to 3-1 on the season with a 20-6 triumph over Wheelock (0-2) on the Black Field on the campus of Thomas College on Sunday afternoon in their home-opener.
The Terriers started the game with a 12-0 run with Ceara DiBiase (Epping, N.H.) tallying all of her three goals within that span. The Wildcats would get on the board at the 2:44 mark on an unassisted score by Emma Marrs (Old Lyme, Conn.). Brittany Premo (Concord, N.H.) would add another for the home squad with 1:13 remaining in the opening half to give Thomas a 13-1 lead.
Wheelock got off to a hot start in the second half, scoring four goals in a row with Marrs tallying two of them. After both teams went back and forth with goals midway through the closing stanza, Thomas would not let the visiting side get another tally, and would add another six to finish the contest.
For the Terriers, Jennifer Day (Gardiner, Maine) led the game with four goals, along with three assists, and nine ground balls. DiBiase chipped in with three goals, while taking a game-leading ten shots. Khamaree Owens (Walforf, Md.), Morgan Hutchins (Dixfield, Maine), Nora Rauch (Shelbourne, Mass.), and Katie Mailman (Wolfeboro, N.H.) all scored their first collegiate goals in the win.
For the Wildcats, Marrs had a team-high three goals, while taking a team-leading five shots. Kaitlyn Donnelly (Atkinson, N.H.) connected with two goals, while picking up five groundballs. Molly Centore (Kennebunk, Maine) contributed with an assist and a team-high nine groundballs in the loss.
Thomas keeper Brittany Fox (Lovell, Maine) recorded five saves on 11 shots, recording her third victory of the season. Her counterpart Monica Bettle (Pembroke, Mass.) had 20 saves on 40 shots in the loss for Wheelock.
With the victory, Thomas improves to 3-0 in the history of the series with Wheelock.
Thomas will be traveling to Florida tomorrow as they will take on Wesley on Tuesday at 11am, then play Kean on Wednesday at 3pm.
