LEICESTER, MA- Senior midfielder Ceara DiBiase (Westbrook, Maine) scored three goals, all in the second half, to lead visiting Thomas College to a 10-8 win over host Becker College in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Sunday at Alumni field. The Terriers of Thomas are now 2-1 while the Hawks of Becker open their season at 0-1.
Sophomore midfielder Jennifer Day (Gardiner, Maine) collected two goals and two assists for Thomas, while senior attacker Jasmine Ryan (Berwick, Maine) and sophomore midfielder Brittany Premo (Concord, N.H.) each had two goals and an assist. Premo racked up seven ground balls.
Becker freshman attacker Kailee Ruyack (Beacon, N.Y.) scored four goals in the first game of her collegiate career, while junior attacker Samantha-Jo Dilkes (Little Falls, N.J.) had a hat trick with three scores. Junior attacker Ashley Mossey (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) contributed a goal and an assist.
The first half went back and forth, with three lead changes. The Hawks went up 5-3 with 11:34 left when Ruyack took the ground ball and ran the length of the field, taking it in herself. But with 2:15 remaining in the period, Ryan found the back of the net, and the two teams went into halftime knotted at five goals each.
The trend continued early in the second half, with the Terrapins twice taking a one-goal lead, only for the Hawks to rally to tie. Thomas finally took a 9-7 lead with 15:16 left in the game off goals by Premo and DeBiase. Jo-Dilkes tried to rally Becker with her third goal with 6:39 remaining, but DiBiase provided the insurance goal in the closing minutes to clinch it for the visitors.
Thomas freshman goalkeeper Brittany Fox (Lovell, Maine) tallied ten stops for the Terriers while Becker freshman goalkeeper Shelby Wicks (Shaftsbury, Vt.) finished the day with 13 saves
