Strong First Half Lifts Terriers Past Husson
Waterville, Maine—The Thomas College women's lacrosse team defeated the Eagles of Husson University in a North Atlantic Conference matchup at home Wednesday evening 15-8. Ceara DiBiase lead the way for the Terriers with five goals and one assist. The Eagles top performer on the afternoon was Kim Gambon who scored two goals and recorded two assists.
With the victory the Terriers improve to 4-6 (1-3 NAC East) and with the loss the Eagles fall to 3-10 (1-5 NAC East) on the season.
The first half saw Terriers jump out to an early lead as Jillian Lambert scored on the Terriers first two possessions. The scoring continued for the Terriers with three more unanswered goals, all from DiBiase, setting the score at 5-0 with 16:08 left to play in the first half. The Eagles answered when Charlotte Gerhardy scored on a pass from Steph Eaton at the 11 minute mark to make the score 5-1. The Terriers continued the scoring with another 5-1 run capped by Jasmine Ryan's goal with 23 seconds remaining in the half.
At the break the Terriers led the Eagles 10-2.
The Eagles started the second half strong with goals from Gerhardy and Caitlyn Stauffer cutting the score to 10-4 in favor of the Terriers. Thomas answered as Ryan scored unassisted pushing the lead back to seven at 11-4. The Terriers received four more goals before the end of regulation, one from Lambert and three from first year midfielder Brittany Premo. Husson also added four more goals before time expired, one from Gerhardy, one from Emily Child, and two from Gambon.
Teshia Cates picks up the win in net for the Terriers recording 12 saves on 25 shots. Kayla Guerrette shoulders the loss for the Eagles making 9 saves on 33 shot attempts.
The Terriers travel to Vermont on Saturday to take on Green Mountain at 2:00 p.m..
