Waterville, Maine – The Thomas College women's lacrosse team picked up a nail-biting 8-7, win over the Leopards of Wentworth in a non-conference exhibition game Saturday afternoon at Bill Alfond, on the campus of Colby College. First years Brittnay Premo and Jennifer Day both tallied three points in the win; Premo came through with two goals and an assist while Day added one goal and two assists for the Terriers. Wentworth's Jess Houghton drilled four goals for the game high.
The Terriers got their offense rolling early in the contest when junior Jasmine Ryan put the home team up 1-0, 15 seconds into the match. Senior Terissa Ridge put the Terriers up 2-0, just 21 seconds later. Ceara DiBiase pushed the lead to 3-0, before the Leopards answered with a goal from Houghton at the 16:45 mark. Premo answered five minutes later followed by a goal from Day two minutes later. The Leopards scored the next two goals before Premo found the back of the net for the second time with two minutes left in the half.
At the break the Terriers held a 6-4 lead over Wentworth.
Jillian Lambert got the Terriers rolling in the second when she found the back of the net off of an assist from DiBiase for a 7-4 lead. But Houghton brought the Leopards back within two with a blast at the 11:15 mark. Kim Migliara capped the scoring for the Terriers with 5:22 left in the game on an unassisted game. Alex Banks hit a goal at the 4:25 mark for the Leopards followed by the Houghton's fourth goal of the game bringing Wentworth within one. The Terriers were able to hold of the Leopards the rest of the way to pick up the win.
Next up for the Terriers is a non-conference at Regis (Mass.) on Saturday March 31st.
