Husson’s Second Half Rally ends Terriers Playoff Run

Bangor, Maine - It was a thrilling final chapter to the NAC East Division Championship at Husson's Boucher Field, as the host Eagles battled to a 13-9 victory over the Thomas College Terriers. Thomas seemed poised to continue their run through the playoffs after upsetting #2 seed Green Mountain College in the semifinal yesterday, and jumping out to a 6-2 lead about half-way through the first period. Husson found their composure and stormed back with 9 goals in a row to help the Eagles secure their second consecutive NAC East Division Championship.

Husson was led offensively by the Tournament MVP Megan Clement who netted 4 goals on the day for the Eagles. Alex Huffman was also named to the all-tournament team, and added 6 ground balls to her already impressive numbers as she finished the season tied for the NCAA Division III lead in that category with 6.31 per game. Stephanie Eaton scored a hat trick and assisted on another to find her way to the all-tournament team, along with Rachel Swasey who had a solid day defensively causing three turnovers, scooping up a pair of ground balls, and uncharacteristically finding her way into the goal column with a free position goal, her first score of the season.

Thomas fought hard until the final horn, getting a strong showing from senior Megan Denby who tied Clement's efforts with four goals in the game. Denby's efforts found her a spot on the all-tournament team, as well as first year teammate Jillian Lambert  who had two goals, three ground balls and three caused turnovers and was literally all over the field throughout the game. Ceara DiBiase also had two goals for the Terriers, but in the end it was not enough to get past Husson.

With the victory, Husson earns the right to represent the East Division at the 2011 NAC Championship next Sunday May 7th to play the winner of Keuka College and SUNY Morrisville who battle this afternoon for the West Division Championship.

The Terriers finish their season with a record of 4-11 and a 1-5 regular season record in the NAC.
