Farmington, Maine – Senior Megan Denby scored with 7:01 remaining to lift Thomas College (3-8, 1-4 NAC) past the University of Maine at Farmington (1-8, 0-4 NAC) 10-9 in North Atlantic Conference East Division women's lacrosse action this afternoon.
Denby's game-winner quashed a rally by the Beavers, who trailed 9-5 with 22:33 left in the game before Aimee St. Germain reeled off four straight scores to tie the contest with 7:16 to play. After Ceara DiBiase won the draw for Thomas, Denby cashed in the possession 15 seconds later for a 10-9 edge. The one-goal lead stood as the Beavers were held to a single shot over the final seven minutes of play.
Denby and fellow senior Kiley Jolicoeur each registered a hat trick for the Terriers with DiBiase, Jillian Lambert and Kim Migliara each adding a goal. DiBiase recorded six ground balls and five draw controls to lead Thomas.
Sophomore Teshia Cates collected eight saves for the Terriers.
UMF's Emma Morrison opened the scoring with an unassisted scored 3:38 into the game, but, led by Jolicoeur with three, Thomas tallied the game's next five goals for a 5-1 lead with 13:25 left in the half. The Terriers maintained a 6-3 lead at the break.
The Beavers trimmed the lead to 6-5 over the first 4:18 of the second half, but Thomas responded with three straight scores to keep UMF at a distance at 9-5 with 22:33 to play. St. Germain's fourth tied the game for the Beavers at 9-9, but Denby gave Thomas the 10-9 win.
The Terriers will face off against future NAC foe New England College on Saturday at 11 a.m. on Alumni Field.
