Fort Ann, N.Y. – Trailing 7-3 at the break, the host Green Mountain College Eagles (3-3, 1-1 NAC) mounted a furious charge over the final 30 minutes of play to get by the Thomas College Women's Lacrosse team (1-3, 0-1 NAC) 12-10, in North Atlantic Conference action Saturday afternoon. Thomas was led by senior Megan Denby, who put four goals in for the Terriers.
The Terriers bolted out of the gate, scoring on their first possession courtesy of Denby's first goal off of a Ceara DiBiase assist. Fellow senior Kiley Jolicoeur doubled the Terriers led with tally at the 27:22 mark. Green Mountain answered with 23 minutes remaining in the first when Emily Brillon found the back of the net, but the Eagles conceded five more times before the halftime. At intermission the Terriers held a 7-3 lead.
The Terriers came out the second half the way they started the first with a Jillian Lambert goal thirty seconds into the start of play. The Eagles were able to answer with an Amanda Posey goal at the 27:59 mark that started a three goal run that brought them within two of the visitors.
DiBiase ended the Eagles run with her second goal of the game at the 20:58 mark, but the home team wouldn't go away without a fight as they found the back of the net three more time to tie the game 9-9 with 14:37 remaining in the game.
Denby broke the tie with her final goal of the game with 8:45 remaining, but the Terriers were unable to maintain the one goal lead as the Eagles sent three more shots pass goal keeper Teshia Cates (1-3). Two of the three goals came after Jolicoeur received her second yellow card with 5:27 remaining, putting the Terriers one player down for the remainder of the game. When the clock read zeros it was the Eagles on top.
Cates made five saves against 17 Eagle shots on goal.
The Terriers will travel to Castleton (4-2) for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference match up.
