WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College women's basketball team defeated UMaine-Augusta 63-40 in their home opener at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
Addie Brinkman (Farmington, Maine) registered her third double-double of the season, scoring 18 points and hauling in a game-high 15 rebounds, while also dishing out six assists.
Karli Stubbs (Auburn, Maine) led all scorers with 19 points and added in seven boards. Anna Piirainen (West Paris, Maine) pulled in seven rebounds, handed out six assists and disrupted the Moose offense with six steals.
Malorie Weaver (Palermo, Maine) tacked on 15 points and pulled in seven rebounds for the Terriers.
The Terriers came out of the gates hot, outscoring the Moose 24-3 in the opening quarter. Stubbs led the pace for Thomas, hitting three three-pointers from the same spot while, Brinkman hit a pair of threes and scored 10 points in the quarter.
Thomas' offense cooled off in the second quarter, but their early lead kept them at a distance and brough them into the intermission up 30-13. They continued to cruise through the second half, outscoring UMA 33-27 in the final two quarters to take the 63-40 win.
Thomas will wrap up their first semester on Sunday, December 15 when they host St. Joe's at 12:00 PM at Larry Mahaney Gym.
