WBB: Thomas Drops Season Opener to Castleton

GORHAM, Maine – The Thomas College women's basketball team dropped their season opener to Castleton University 58-39 at the University of Southern Maine on Friday evening.

After trailing 11-9 midway through the opening quarter, the Spartans went on a 16-0 run over the final five minutes of the period to go ahead 21-11 after one. The Spartans held control in the second quarter, outscoring the Terriers 13-2 to take a 34-13 lead at the break.

The Spartans came out of halftime firing once again, going on an 11-4 run in the first three minutes of the third quarter to push the lead to its largest margin at 26 points, 45-19. The Terriers clawed back for the remainder of the quarter, outscoring Castleton 10-3 over the next seven minutes to make it 48-27 after three quarters.

Thomas outscored Castleton by a 12-10 margin over the final 10 minutes, but the Spartans early advantage stood as they took the 58-39 victory.

Kaylee Ravagli (Lowell, Mass.) led Thomas in scoring off the bench, netting a team-high 10 points on 3-of-7 shooting from the floor. Karli Stubbs (Auburn, Maien) scored seven points for the Terriers, shooting 2-for-3 from three. Addie Brinkman (Farmington, Maine) led all players with 11 rebounds, including five offensive boards for Thomas.

Brooke Raiche led all scorers with 22 points on 7-of-16 shooting, including a 4-of-8 mark from long range. Alexis Quenneville totaled 14 points in the contest, while Katlyn Toomey added three steals, three blocks and a team-leading eight rebounds.


The Terriers will return to USM to take on the Huskies at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 10.
