CASTINE, Maine – The Thomas College women's basketball team fell to Maine Maritime Academy, 61-44, on Wednesday night in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Smith Gymnasium.
The Mariners improve to 17-7 overall and 12-5 in the NAC with the victory, while the Terriers fall to 9-15 on the season and 6-11 in the conference.
After a low scoring first quarter, Morgan Boudreau hit a jumper as time expired to send the Mariners into the second quarter with an 11-6 advantage.
The Mariners began to pull away in the second, and three-straight threes gave Maine Maritime a 32-14 lead with 1:17 to go in the half. The Terriers cut the deficit to 29-16 entering halftime following a jumper from Abby Nielsen (North Yarmouth, Maine).
Maine Maritime's Melinda Ogden led all players with 10 points in the first half.
The Mariners maintained a double-digit lead throughout the third quarter and entered the final 10 minutes with a 47-31 lead.
Maine Maritime outscored Thomas College 14-13 to secure the 61-44 victory.
Ogden led the Mariners with 15 points, three rebounds, two steals and an assist, while Megan McLean added 14 points, a game-high eight rebounds and two steals. Alayne Felix contributed 11 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals and Caitlin Kane chipped in with 10 points, three assists, three steals and two assists.
Amira Jones (Chicopee, Mass.) led the Terriers with a double-double of 14 points, 11 rebounds and added two assists and a steal. Addie Brinkman (Farmington, Maine) added eight points and six rebounds.
The two teams both shot 33.3 percent from the floor, and pulled down 39 rebounds, but the Mariners shot 30.4 percent from beyond the arc compared to the Terriers' 16.7 percent.
Thomas will wrap up their season on Saturday as they host Husson at 1:00 p.m.
