WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College women's basketball team defeated UMaine-Farmington 61-42 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest on Saturday afternoon at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium.
The Terriers improve to 7-7 overall and 4-3 in the NAC, while the Beavers drop to 4-9 overall and 1-7 in conference play.
Thomas jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead over the first two and a half minutes. The Terriers kept their offensive surge going through the rest of the quarter, with Karli Stubbs (Auburn, Maine) leading the way with 11 points, to take a 33-13 lead after one.
The Terriers kept their momentum going in the second, holding the Beavers to just seven points and taking a 47-20 advantage into the break.
UMaine-Farmington closed the gap over the final two quarters, but were unable to overcome the early deficit and Thomas took the 61-42 victory.
Senior Amira Jones (Chicopee, Mass.) notched her second double-double in three games with a 16 point, 11 rebound performance. Stubbs just missed a double-double of her own with 13 points and nine boards, while senior Jordan Turner (Casco, Maine) picked up 10 rebounds and seven assists.
Haley Felkel led the Beavers with 12 points, while registering eight rebounds and three steals. Cheyenne Malloy added eight points, while Paige Carter pulled in eight boards.
The Terriers will visit Green Mountain on Friday, January 19 for a NAC contest at 5:30 p.m.
