Terriers Can't Overcome Early Deficit, Fall to Moose 64-49

WATERVILLE, ME – The Thomas College women's basketball team dropped a non-conference matchup to the University of Maine at Augusta, 64-49, on Tuesday night at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium.

The Terriers fall to 4-4 (1-2 NAC), finishing an eight game home stand, while the Moose move above .500 to 6-5 (3-2 YSCC).

The game remained scoreless for the first two and a half minutes in the first quarter until the Moose began a 6-0 run.  The Terriers kept the gap at five points throughout the quarter as the Moose finished the first with a 21-16 advantage.  Jamie Plummer scored 11 of her team's 21 points while Jordan Turner (Casco, Maine / Lake Region) kept the Terriers close with six points.

In the middle of the second quarter, Kelly Macomber (West Gardiner, Maine / Gardiner) hit two layups to bring the Terriers with six.  Two three-pointers from Carmen Bragg and a layup from Caitlin LaFountain ended the scoring for the first half at 38-24 in favor of the Moose.

The Moose continued to increase their lead as they opened the third quarter with a 9-2 run.  Plummer and LaFountain each added seven points for the team's 14 points in the third.  The Terriers struggled on 3-of-14 shooting and trailed 52-30 going into the final frame.

Thomas outscored the moose 19-12 in the fourth but could not overcome the early deficit. Karli Stubbs (Auburn, Maine / Edward Little), Amira Jones (Chicopee, Mass. / Chicopee), and Malorie Weaver (Palermo, Maine / Erskine Academy) each added four points in the final quarter as the Terriers fell 64-49.

Turner led the Terriers offense with ten points and three assists while Macomber chipped in with nine points.

Plummer scored a game-high 25 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, and four steals.  Bragg finished with 13 points, four rebounds, and four assits.

The Terriers will hit the road Saturday, December 10 as they face Daniel Webster at 1:00 p.m.
