WATERVILLE, ME – The Thomas College women's basketball team fell in a non-conference matchup, 73-49, to Colby on Tuesday night at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium.
The Terriers were given their first loss of the 2016-17 season and move to 3-1 while the Mules improve to 2-1.
The Mules used a balanced scoring attack in the first quarter to open up to a 25-14 lead on 71.4 percent (5-for-7) behind the arch.
Colby turned up the defense in the second as they held the Terriers to just eight points. Abby Nielsen (North Yarmouth, Maine / Yarmouth) knocked down a pair of threes to keep the score within distance. The Mules went to the locker room at the break with a 40-22 advantage.
Shooting woes continued for the Terriers as they shot 2-for-12 in the third, trailing 57-29 going into the final quarter.
The Terriers went on to outscore the Mules in the fourth, 17-16, on eight points from Jordan Turner (Casco, Maine / Lake Region).
The Mules shot an impressive 10-for-19 from the three-point line and out rebounded the Terriers 39-39. Three players scored in double digits with Ainsley Burns, Katie McCrum, and Paige Russell.
Nielsen led the Terriers with 16 points, including 4-for-7 from three. Turner added eight points, five assists, and two rebounds in the loss.
The Terriers will open their conference schedule on Tuesday, November 29 as they host Maine Maritime at 7:30 p.m.
