WATERVILLE, ME – The Thomas College women's basketball team has announced their 2016 – 2017 schedule for the upcoming season. In her third season, head coach Emily Cummins and the Terriers will take on a 25-game schedule, including strong non-conference opponents to prepare for the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) schedule.
The Terriers look to rebuild with many new players this season after finishing 2015 – 2016 at 3-22 overall and 2-16 in the NAC. Thomas will look for leadership out of returning players Tess McClenahan and Kelly Macomber.
"I am very excited about our multi- talented incoming class of nine players for this season. We have a strong foundation of work ethic, leadership, and competitive drive through our four transfer players: Amira Jones, Jordan Turner, Sammie Griffin and Abby Nielsen." All four players logged a lot of minutes last season at Southern Maine Community College and will use their experience for a quick transition into the new program. Jones led the SeaWolves offense last season with 11.4 points per game and averaging nine rebounds. Turner averaged 7.5 points and a team-high 3.7 assists per game.
Thomas also has true freshmen that Coach Cummins feels will make their presence known early. "Stephanie Carl and Karli Stubbs are two of our five true freshman who will be immediate impacts in our program and in the conference. Both of these players have unlimited flexibility within several positions on the court and a tireless mentality to succeed."
Thomas will begin their season with eight-straight home contest, including five non-conference opponents in Presque Isle, Machias, Wheelock, Colby, and Me.-Augusta. Coach Cummins hopes a challenging non-conference schedule will have her squad ready for conference play and to make a run at the postseason tournament.
"I have no doubt that we will provide a lot of match-up difficulty for opponents given our size, strength, versatility, and experience. I anticipate opening a lot of people's eyes this season and putting Thomas College Women's Basketball on the map."
The Terriers will begin their season regular season on November 15, as they host the University of Maine at Presque Isle in a 5:30 p.m. contest in Larry Mahaney Gymnasium. Thomas will also host the Thomas Tip-Off Classic November 18 and 19, with opponents the University of Maine at Machias and Wheelock.
