BANGOR, Maine --- Husson University locked up the top seed in the upcoming North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's basketball tournament with a 66-38 win over Thomas College on Wednesday.
The Eagles (18-6, 16-1 NAC) sprinted out to a 10-0 lead and held a 16-7 advantage after one quarter.
Sophomore Taylor Johnson (Skowhegan, Maine / Skowhegan Area) drained a three-pointer to open second quarter for the Terriers (3-21, 2-15 NAC), but Husson rattled off 11 straight points to lead by 17 before Kelly Macomber (West Gardiner, Maine / Gardiner Area) hit a jumper at the 4:55 mark to make it 27-12.
The Eagles tallied the next five points but Macomber drained another jumper to send the teams to the locker rooms with Husson holding a 32-14 lead.
Thomas picked up the scoring in the second half, totaling 14 points in the third quarter behind six points each from Katie McAllister (Pittston, Maine / Gardiner Area) and Macomber.
Johnson, McAllister and Macomber scored eight points apiece to lead Thomas, while Ashleigh Gagne (Waterville, Maine / Waterville) added seven points and four rebounds. Junior Tess McClenahan (Salmon, Idaho / Salmon) did not score put pulled down a game-high eight rebounds and had three assists and two steals.
The Terriers won the rebounding battle, 46-37, but shot just 26.8 percent (15-of-56) from the field compared to Husson's 40.0 percent (26-of-65).
The Eagles also forced 29 turnovers while committing just 11 themselves, resulting in 18 steals.
Victoria McIntyre posted a game-high 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds while shooting 5-of-10 from the field to lead Husson.
Thomas closes out the season Saturday afternoon with a Senior Day matchup with Maine Maritime Academy. The game, which will be streamed live by NSN, is scheduled for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
