WATERVILLE, ME - The Thomas women's basketball team were defeated by non-conference opponent Saint Joseph's College 56-40 on Wednesday night. The Terriers (1-14, 0-8 NAC) were within seven points midway through the second half before a 14-0 run put the Monks (11-3, 3-0 GNAC) up by 20 and would not look back.
The first half was all about defense, as both teams bottled up one another. Thomas shot just 29.2 percent (7-24) from the field while St. Joseph's shot 28.9 percent (11-38). The Monks owned the boards 28-19 in the half, and held the lead into the half 27-19.
Junior Katie McAllister got off to a good start offensively, going 3 of 4 from the field for six points, but got into trouble by picking up three fouls, resulting in only 11 minutes on the court.
In the second half, the Terriers were able to hang around early on, as the with 12:54 remaining in the game the Monks lead was just seven. Saint Joseph's pulled away by crashing the offensive boards and converting extra opportunities on the Terriers, as they scored a combined 35 points off of second chances and turnovers.
The Monks Emily Kehoe with a game-high 13 points, and Morgan Cahill with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Thomas will be back on the court Friday night, when they host Green Mountain College at 5:30 PM.
