Waterville, ME --- Thomas College Director of Athletics David Roussel is pleased to announce that Ian Wilson has been hired to take over the Terriers track and field program. Wilson has over 25 years of coaching experience and has spent the last two years at Colby College as the assistant coach of the men and women's track & field program. In those two years, he coached athletes to four school records and to one All-American award.
Prior to coaching at Colby, he was the head coach of the track and field team at Waterville High School from 1995 – 2014. While coaching at Waterville, his athletes had a great deal of success including national qualifiers in nearly every event and led teams to the state high school championships 25 times.
Wilson was heavily involved in the Waterville High School boosters' organization. He was in charge of fundraising and within one year, the boosters raised enough money to completely resurface the outdoor track. He also implemented a youth track clinic at the Hall School in Waterville and became involved in a downtown Waterville field project through the Boys & Girls Club.
"I have seen remarkable growth at Thomas and believe in their vision and mission. My role is to help guide the track program from a club to a varsity team. My immediate goal is to develop a deep and talented roster that competes well at the conference and regional level, and have a national presence as a long-term goal. I am excited at the opportunity to be here at Thomas and develop the track program."
